First Friday Fasting and Praying..

The first Friday of each month the people at JCH who aren’t in school fast from the time they wake up until lunch and they pray continuously. Kara Lisby and I were able to catch the last half hour of their prayers. We sat on mats in a square and listened to the women sing songs of praise in Kannada. Their voices were beautiful. Their passion couldn’t be missed. It was really neat to see and experience. God was present.

After they sang we broke off into groups of four or five and were asked to pray. We prayed in a circle, Lisby Kara and I were all in different groups…They asked us to pray first. We prayed, then each girl began to pray with such an intensity and such a faith, that despite the language barrier, I knew they have a heart for Christ and they are a light to the three of us. They pray a lot. They pray for things that I take for granted daily. They pray for each girl specifically. They pray for their country. They pray for us.

They pray with great intention and without hesitation.
That is something I seek.

  1. Vicky, thanks for writing this! I didn’t know they prayed and fasted each Friday. What a beautiful picture! I think God’s going to give you what you seek, and that being there is part of your journey.

  2. Thanks for sharing about this! It sounds exciting and I am so glad you get to be a part…

So wouldn’t it be good for us to do the same? What about those of us at NFC jumping in on this First Friday Fast and prayer? Could be a good thing to fast “at the same time” or at least the same time frame…

  3. Vicky, thanks for posting. I’m so glad you’re having this experience. May God bless you, teach you about Himself, about prayer…

    Peace.

  4. I remember Amanda talking about this experience. It changed her in beautiful and amazing ways. It would be very cool to do the same thing here at the same time!
